Articles for Episode 273: It's About Control

A common phrase in the gun control debate is, "it's not about guns, it's about control." That rings true there, but it's true in almost every area the government is taking special interest in these days. In this episode we're going to talk about a number of different areas where this is starting to be more plain.

The extras list is much shorter this time but no less important. If you have comments on these, post them!

Episode 235: Inspiring or Depressing

Another episode with a lot of audience participation!  We did deviate from our show notes somewhat, thanks to Joesf from Second Life for providing a news story that gives an example of the extremes that a father must go to in order to protect their children.

Use whatever words you want, inspiring, encouraging, uplifting... or the opposite, depressing, callous, negative. Tonight we're going to talk about stores that have one impact or the other on all of us, mainly based on your political ideas. Here are the articles for this episode:
And yes, this week there are more articles that didn't make the list:

Episode 230: So Much For...

Wow, "Sprummer" (spring/summer) is here and life has gotten a lot busier around here.  My sincere apologies for those that use the website to track the podcast, here is last week's episode!

There was a lot of fun to be had with the concept of applying the phrase, "so much for..." to each of the articles discussed in this episode.

When the show notes get put together for an episode, normally there is a common theme. This time it's more of a common phrase applied. Tonight we've got a number of items to discuss that cover a wide range of topics.

Here are the articles, like I said, the subject range is pretty broad tonight!
More interesting reads, just not enough time to cover them all!

Episode 209: Understanding and Concessions

In this episode we actually talked about the concept of concessions and compromise!  We also had some follow-up articles that had to be included and a disturbing story from Montana about what is and is not considered journalism.

Uh, oh, I used the "C" word, didn't I? As much as it pains me to say this, sometimes a deadlocked Congress isn't best for the people. Tonight we're going to talk about the concepts of compromise (or lack of it) as identified in the news artciles this week. Join us for the recording session at 8:30pm Eastern time either here or at http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/75570. Here are the artciles for this episode:

Okay, so the truth can sometimes be scary, especially when it reveals something other than what is considered politically correct or popular. Here we have a group of articles that point out the truth that some people would rather have avoided.
There were a lot of other articles that came up, including some interesting slants on the Occupy activities and official reactions and actions to them. They didn't make the list but of course we link to them in case you want to read them.

Episdoe 202: What's That You Say?

Well, the last week has been full of interesting things being said, many of them not so politically expedient or prudent. That's what is up on deck for this episode!  We were joined by a few extra callers, including my mom!  As I anticipated, we only managed to get through a few of the articles, yet the conversation was lively and educational.

It's amazing what comes out of the mouths of children and politicians. Sometimes they aren't so far apart. Here are the articles we're going to discuss for this episode, which includes some interesting examples.
And, of course, there were stories that bear linking to but didn't fit either the subject or the time constraints.

Episode 195: This is Supposed to be Organized?

This was a fun episode to record and, as has been the case lately, we didn't get through all of the articles!  There's a lot to discuss beyond the items we managed to cover here.  Be sure to check out the show notes for the articles and video we reference in the show.

Two links I mentioned that I'd add when I posted the show; first was for an article written by one of our listeners and posted here in October of last year entitled The Tipping Point.  The second was for a sci-fi short I recently listed to over on EscapePod, entitled Union Dues – Sidekicks in Stockholm which I listened to and then heard about the September 17 stuff.

We often hear the President referred to as a, "community organizer." Unfortunately, I think he may have lost his skills in the organization department long ago, as the articles we have on tap for this episode point out a large amount of confusion and discontent, even within his own power base.

Also, you may notice a poll on the right-hand sidebar of the site. We're looking at a new way to create high-quality silk-screened t-shirts at an affordable cost. It's my own opinion that the shirt designs may sell better if we don't rely on an outside service for the production and delivery. Unfortunately for that to work we need to know what kind of demand we have from our listeners. Please take a moment to answer the poll before it closes on 9/19 so we can get a good idea of what folks want. Thanks!

Episode 167: It's Our Money

I've tried foks, really I have - I cannot find anything but news on the budget or protests... in some cases in the same stories! Tonight we're going to talk about the budget discussion and maneuvering that is going on this week. It's our money, let's talk about how they're trying to spend it.

Episode 139: Acting as They Should

In this weekend's episode we're mostly going to discuss stories that didn't get attention. Call them the "stories behind the stories." One of the problems with a 24 hour news cycle and the ADD pubic attention span is that these things just get glossed over.
