Episode 327: They're Not Even Trying

This episode was a bit more sedate but no less informative and interesting.  We talked about some good examples of cronyism and chaos in the system being created only to serve the interests of those in power.

At this point you'd have to be either brainwashed or blind not to see that our elected and appointed officials are working the system. In this episode we look at several examples where the pandering is completely obvious.

Episode 300: Guns, Jobs and Money

We had an excellent time talking with Assemblywoman Jane Corwin from New York.  A large amount of the conversation was spent discussing the New York SAFE Act but several other topics were covered as well.  While we didn't touch a single one of the articles on the list, we definitely covered the subject material very thoroughly.  It's interesting to hear the situation from the viewpoint of someone that's involved in the process.

If you want to learn more about Assemblywoman Corwin you can visit her website at JaneCorwin.com. The show notes also includes a short biography.

In Line at Wal-Mart

My good friend Fabian Story just posted the following on Facebook:
Ok, so as I am standing in line in Wal-Mart I am privy to a conversation that takes place between two very very verl large women who have carts full of junk foods and processed pre-cooked meals laughing and talking about the fact that the are now going to vote for Obama since they have received their new Obama phone and was able to drop their contract with Verizon and now pay 10.00 a month each for the same plan they were paying 69 for the equivalent services with Verizon. They then proceeded to tell me and another lady in the line that Obama is saving this nation by "giving" everyone healthcare, phones, paying off people's houses and making it harder on businesses to screw us.

I asked her where she worked and she told me she lives off of child support for 5 kids with 4 diff daddy's and she was not ashamed to tell me that she made more by lying in court and making them "pay" than getting a real job. She said that since she did not have to report Child Support as income she lived in "rent assisted" house, gets nearly 1600 in food stamps and other services and she sees this as her right. What are we becoming?
Now, if you talk to Democrats about those who leech off our public support system, they'll tell you these are "few and far between."  Unfortunately, this isn't the only story that I've heard that follows this same narrative. It seems to me like the exception, for some demographics, is becoming more and more the rule.

Even President Obama has said, "I think we should acknowledge that some welfare programs in the past were not well designed and in some cases did encourage dependency.… As somebody who worked in low-income neighborhoods, I've seen it where people weren't encouraged to work, weren't encouraged to upgrade their skills, were just getting a check, and over time their motivation started to diminish. And I think even if you’re progressive you've got to acknowledge that some of these things have not been well designed." (ref: President Obama Admits Welfare Encourages Dependency)

Apparently in some parts of the country, it's not just the past but also the present where this is the case.

Episode 157: Sanctimonious Insanities

As the US approaches the insanity of Christmas shopping, I thought it would be fun to look at some other crazy things that have surfaced in the news. We also have to talk about the compromoise proposal between the President and the Republicans.

We opened the show with three "fun" stories, all related and all actually news. The biggest point was the breakdown of the President's briefing on the tax cut compromise and the fact that Bill Clinton had to come in to talk it up!

Episode 117: Corruption and Health Care

Tonight's show went quite long - almost 10 minutes over! There were a lot of things to talk about and... well... those things just happen some times!  I'll also warn everyone (and I do on the podcast as well) that the conversation about Toyota dips pretty far into the "conspiracy theory" gene pool.  Listen with your tinfoil hat tightly attached!

In tonight's episode we had to cover the obvious points. First off, a catch-up from something discussed last week about the school spying. Then we had Toyota, Rangel, Paterson and the Health Summit to talk about. It was a very interesting show with comments coming from SecondLife and TalkShoe, where we had a guest from "the other side" that spurred some of the conversation.
