Articles for Episode 285: Addressing Growth

As time marches on, one thing that has to be considered by any organization is how it can expand membership for the future. Tonight we have a special guest, Mike Garcar, Field Director for the Ohio College Republican Federation. We'll be talking with him about the challenges that the GOP faces reaching out to the millennial generation.

We've also got our regular round of articles that we'll be discussing, hopefully with Mike joining us to add his perspective, so it's going to be a busy show!

A few other articles in the list, not as many as other episodes but still some stores worth stirring up.

Episode 282: Making Life Difficult

Wow, talking about making life difficult indeed! First, there have been technical issues with TalkShoe for the last two weeks. Then we throw in my own verbal malfunctions during the show, and the subjects and excellent turnout made this an episode that was fun and frustrating at the same time. We had great input from all of our guests, both in TalkShoe and in Second Life. If you haven't been able to make a live recording session, I'd invite you to do so!

We did work very hard to keep the conversation civil. Sometimes we didn't stay on the list of articles but that just added spice to the conversation. Definitely worth the listen. One administrative note. Due to technical confusion, last week's episode did not make it to the Red State Talk Radio network on time. It will be running until Wednesday, when this episode will replace it. We'll be back on schedule there starting with the next episode.

There are times when maintaining civility in political discourse is going to be a challenging task. This is one such week, as the articles for the show attest. We're going to try to get through a conversation about these with the best possible attitude. Should be an interesting challenge!

Articles for this episode:
This week provided a lot of different things to discuss beyond what was selected for the show. Here are some of the other articles that were tweeted @ECConservative:

Episode 277: Do You Hear What I Hear

This episode introduces a slightly different format, with part of the intro moved to the ending which lets us get started much faster. It was a fun episode, though there are a couple of areas where I should have censored Shorahmin. We'll forgive him his BS lines... though the media is offered no similar reprieve.

We've added Bitcoin donations for those that trade in that virtual currency.

When you're listening to the news (or watching or reading), what do you hear? What do you see? There's an element of control that is being exerted by both the media and political groups. We've said this before but there are some really big examples of stories that won't be getting that much exposure but still need to be known.

Articles for this episode:
There was a whole other line of discussion that we could have taken this week! There will probably be a few videos recorded from these articles, but if you want to add your own comments please feel free!

Episode 274: Tactics

Another energetic conversation discussing the tactics and outlets used by both parties. Some of them are scary, others disturbing but they all seem to be effective. Take a listen for yourself and add your own comments!

Articles for Episode 274: Tactics

Lately it seems like everything is being presented with some underlying tactical perspective. It's not about side or party, it seems more about staying in power and getting one in over the other guy. In this episode we're going to be talking about the tactics being employed by both political parties to achieve that goal. Whether it's for the good of the country or not is a different question that we'll try to raise as well.

Episode 270: Behind the Green Curtain

Well, as promised there are a lot of things out there that are being used to distract and misdirect the American public that we talked about in this episode. We had quite a time breaking things down and pulling them apart.

Watching the news and events that happen on a weekly basis, I've come to the conclusion that there is some serious manipulating going on by either the President or someone close to him. In this episode we're going to look at some blatant examples of this.

After this episode's recording we are back to our normal Sunday night recording schedule!

Thanks to everyone for working with us on the change and for your continued support! Articles for this episode:
There are many other stories as well… not as many as last week, but they are still worth checking out!

Episode 266: Moves Toward Change

The concept for this episode was to discuss some of the things that were moving forward with the GOP and conservative ideas. We looked at the question, "is it enough?" The answer came back an underwhelming, "maybe."  There's a lot more to talk about but we're somewhat encouraged by Rep. Ryan's concept of, "pick your battles."  The important question is whether or not the Republican leadership will follow through with this.

We've gotten some responses from our product poll and are working on designs for coffee cups, mugs, bumper stickers, and other non-clothing type items. Look for a link to our new store to be online starting in February!

Episode 264: Hot Potato

We really had a fun time on the podcast!  Playing "Hot Potato" with a few of the subjects outlined in the show notes turned in to a number of meaningful conversations and discussion ideas.  If you have comments, be sure to post them to the site or email them to conservativepodcast@gmail.com.

Please be sure to vote in our merchandise poll to identify those things you'd be willing to buy from the podcast.  We're in the home stretch for the poll and I want as much input as possible before investing in the preparation of the products.

Looking over the articles that were collected over the past week, it was rather difficult to settle on a single subject for this episode. I ended up picking three issues that are currently being bandied about by the media and political pundits so we could add our input to them.

Before I give the list of articles, I also wanted to share a new site that I found that isn't really an article. Pop Vox is a site that allows you to see bills that are going through the cogs of our political machine and share your opinions on them.

Here are the articles for this episode:
Like I said, there were a lot of articles to pick from this week. This show could have gone a number of different ways. Please, if there are stories you'd like to discuss that we didn't make it to, feel free to add your comments below!

Episode 263: Broken Standards

Well, true to the subject there were lots of "broken" things to discuss.  It was an enjoyable time but also rather eye-opening when it comes to the American standards that seem to be in serious need of repair.

Please be sure to vote in our merchandise poll to identify those things you'd be willing to buy from the podcast.

Episode 261: Coal for Christmas

Something of an odd Christmas present, but the show's recorded and ready for download several hours early!  There was a scheduling conflict so Ken and I decided that rather than push the recording off we'd do the show at 2pm today.

We talked about the folks that should and should not get a lump of coal for Christmas this year.  I'll be posting a picture of my new voter registration card as well, following up on a promise made a few episodes back.

This episode is being recorded earlier in the day (2:00pm Eastern) due to a scheduling conflict this evening.

What can I say? There are some folks that just deserve coal in their stockings. We're going to be talking about them, and some that don't deserve it as well. We didn't want to talk about just the gun issue, but it is on the list today.

Here are the articles:
And yup, there's more to discuss as well. Here are the stories that didn't make the list.

Video Episode 6: Starting the Conversation

After last week's episode I felt I had to come up with some avenue to start a conversation about truly effecting some level of change in our country.  There was a letter to the editor brought up on Facebook today and I decided to use it as a gateway for conversation about some of the cultural issues impacting the fiscal stability of the nation.

Episode 258: Failures At Home and Abroad

In this episode we talked about the failures of both parties and were joined by a new caller, Naj, and gave an excellent example of how people of different political viewpoints can share some ideas and politely disagree on others.  The failures are happening right now from both parties and in some cases nothing has changed.

Episode 257: A Season of Change

For a late recording show, we had a good turn-out when it came to the audience!  In this episode we did something of a panel with Ken, Shorahmin, Joesf and Toawa adding their thoughts to what happened in the 2012 election.  You'll have to listen to hear their take on just where the GOP took missteps and wrong turns!  We also talked about some of the upcoming "gotcha" items embedded in that lovely little bill we call Obamacare.

We actually used articles from the "other links" section of the show notes... I think more than from the main list!
