Episode 280: Communication Necessities

Administrative comment: Continually apologizing for the late posts and then posting late the following week is getting a tad repetitive, so I'll explain rather than make excuses. There are some big things being planned for the podcast as well as a new endeavor. Nothing is going to change for quite some time (in Internet terms of time, at least), however if you're a blogger, podcaster or vodcaster that is interested in hearing more about the rumblings of an interesting project, contact me directly.

This week we talked about the things necessary for a good, civil conversation. We also identified the real definition of the concept and also what it is not. Civility does not equate with watering down or with changing a message just to make it palatable to a wide audience. If you want to hear more, listen to the podcast!

There are some required aspects for effective communication, whether the subject is politics, the weather or a shopping list. In this episode we're going to look at some news articles that are examples of where these are noticeably missing from one side or the other. Let's talk about them and see how we can improve the conversation!

Episode 278: Safety Precautions

A bit late getting this episode posted to the website, sorry about that. It was a good conversation about the events in Boston, while working hard to discuss new items and not simply go on about the same issues everyone else had been talking about.

There was quite the conversation about schooling, especially home schooling in light of some of the articles that have come out lately. Which camp do you fall in? Do you think parents should keep their kids in the system and fight the bureaucracy from within or pull their kids out and challenge the system on behalf of others?

After the events of the past week, what are we doing to keep things safe? What's happening in the government to maintain security levels and how are educators working to help our children stay safe? Based on the articles for this episode, it's a rather confusing and twisted answer. Join us to discuss these and other things!

While it's not on the article list, we will be talking about the bombing in Boston as well.  I am specifically not including any of the "liberals had their mind made up," "Bostonians gave up their guns" or any other of the rants that have been flowing around the 'net with reckless abandon.  We're really shooting for, "different words in a different order," this week.

Articles for this episode:
Twitter was a-flitter with a lot of different news stories this week. While we might not get a chance to talk about them, give the a read and add your comments to the conversation about them. Here are some of the other articles that were tweeted @ECConservative:

Episode 277: Do You Hear What I Hear

This episode introduces a slightly different format, with part of the intro moved to the ending which lets us get started much faster. It was a fun episode, though there are a couple of areas where I should have censored Shorahmin. We'll forgive him his BS lines... though the media is offered no similar reprieve.

We've added Bitcoin donations for those that trade in that virtual currency.

When you're listening to the news (or watching or reading), what do you hear? What do you see? There's an element of control that is being exerted by both the media and political groups. We've said this before but there are some really big examples of stories that won't be getting that much exposure but still need to be known.

Articles for this episode:
There was a whole other line of discussion that we could have taken this week! There will probably be a few videos recorded from these articles, but if you want to add your own comments please feel free!

Articles for Episode 271: Challenging Times

There's no doubt that times are challenging for American citizens. The economy's bipolar approach to recovery, gun rights being challenged and educational standards in the tank. Tonight we're going to look at these issues in a bit more detail.

For this episode we have with us Bob Schulz and Judith Whitmore of We The People of New York. They have filed suit against the state of New York on the constitutionality and process related to the passing of the New York SAFE Gun Control Act. Learn more about their organization and petitions at WeThePeopleofNY.org.  You can read the press release about their lawsuit by clicking here.

Again, another short list of other articles. Definitely some that bear more conversation though.

Episode 261: Coal for Christmas

Something of an odd Christmas present, but the show's recorded and ready for download several hours early!  There was a scheduling conflict so Ken and I decided that rather than push the recording off we'd do the show at 2pm today.

We talked about the folks that should and should not get a lump of coal for Christmas this year.  I'll be posting a picture of my new voter registration card as well, following up on a promise made a few episodes back.

This episode is being recorded earlier in the day (2:00pm Eastern) due to a scheduling conflict this evening.

What can I say? There are some folks that just deserve coal in their stockings. We're going to be talking about them, and some that don't deserve it as well. We didn't want to talk about just the gun issue, but it is on the list today.

Here are the articles:
And yup, there's more to discuss as well. Here are the stories that didn't make the list.

Episode 246: Polar Opposites or Verbal Nuances

Well, not only was I not able to find a good media breakdown of the DNC platform, I completely fell short on posting the episode to the website.  My apologies!  We did record on time and the show has been available on our Talkshoe and iTunes feeds as well as on Red State Talk Radio.

Folks, I tried, I reall did! I wanted to have a three week series on the two platforms and then a final comparison. Unfortunately the news and my own research wouldn't comply with my ideas for the DNC, so I'm left with shortening the series to two weeks.

Tonight we are going to look at the results of the DNC convention and compare them to the GOP platform. Here's how this is going to work. Since we used the Politico story Tampa platform's 5 flashpoints as our diving board for the conversation last weekend, we'll use it to identify the starting comparison points tonight. We'll see where things go from there!

I'm not segregating a "made" and "didn't make" list tonight. Here are the links for articles tonight:

Episode 236: Poor Planning, Bad Ideas and Desperation

Well, this episode did run a bit off plan, however there was a lot of good conversation!  Instead of starting off right away with the normal flow of things, we began our show talking about the results of the Egyptian election.

I know, I know, the subject is somewhat nebulous, but with the range of articles we had this week, it was the best way to summarize them! We've got Kerry, Obama, the military, Holder, MSNBC, Romney, the NSA and even a cheapskate moment. This episode may end up a bit chaotic but we'll have fun getting it there, join us if you can. Recording starts at 8:30pm Eastern or you can listen any time at http://www.eastcoastconservative.com. Articles are posted at Here are the articles for the episode.
There was a lot going on in the news this week. I'm pretty sure I missed some things, but here are some other articles ripe for the commenting:

Episode 235: Inspiring or Depressing

Another episode with a lot of audience participation!  We did deviate from our show notes somewhat, thanks to Joesf from Second Life for providing a news story that gives an example of the extremes that a father must go to in order to protect their children.

Episode 231: Conjuring Perceptions

Another late post, the joys of spring, right?

The episode was a lot of fun to record.  Shorahmin and Joesf from SecondLife joined in and we had ourselves a "grand old time" talking about the concepts of family security, the perceptions that are made based on actions and words as well as a few other fun things.
