Well, we didn't let a little ditch distract us from catching up and recording this week's podcast! We followed the same articles - to a degree - and had a fun time for a Monday night recording. With the primary in Ken's home state tomorrow, we spent some time on that subject and talked about how dirty a job politics really is.

Episode 201: What Next Big Thing?
So much of the news this week has been focused on either the protests against banks (and capitalism by extension) and the actions that Iran tried to do. In this episode we worked to talk about those other stories that didn't make the top headlines or all the news feeds.

Sovereignty Day in Iraq
Jan 1, 2009 is now officially called "Sovereignty Day" in Iraq. Why? Well, while most of the US was sleeping off their New Year's hangover, the Green Zone in Baghdad was officially put under Iraqi control. I'm not sure how many others recognize the significance of that event but it has been hailed by Iraqi leaders as a huge step in new government's control.

Episode 41: Obama's Baby Fears Iraq's English Teen Acceptance
Quite the show tonight! Good turn-out in Second Life and in the chat room as well! We had a good commentary from Guest 4 until I started talking about the Obama acceptance speech. Oh, and for those who want text versions of the items quoted from Obama's speech: Here are the quotes that I agreed with:"... go through the federal budget line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work and making the ones we do need work better and cost less, because we cannot meet 21st-century challenges with a 20th-century bureaucracy."And the ones that I took special issue with:
"Yes, we must provide more ladders to success for young men who fall into lives of crime and despair. But we must also admit that programs alone can't replace parents, that government can't turn off the television and make a child do her homework, that fathers must take more responsibility to provide love and guidance to their children."
"We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don't tell me that Democrats won't defend this country. Don't tell me that Democrats won't keep us safe."If you like the show, tell three friends! If you don't, make sure to come back next week where we'll have different words in a different order!
"[We are more compassionate than a government] that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes."
"If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from."
Episode 35: Fathers Throwing Spades while Saddam Pays for Pictures
An excellent show this evening! We were joined by Ron Skytower of the Conservative Matters Podcast and Adam Graham of the Truth and Hope Report. Tom Millican, unaffiliated conservative Presidential candidate joined us in the chat room. Help him get on the ballot in your state! For more info on that, visit his website at http://www.tommillican.com! Ken was with us but almost didn't make it. In addition, Mr. Murphy joined in with some technical and non-technical problems. Even given the issues we found, we persevered. Here are links to the articles...
- Flugtag Entries Take Energetic Drop Into Drink
- PETA Ad links Teen Pregnancy and Pet Spaying/Neutering
- Interview with Saddam Hussein's investigator.
- Teen Pregnancy Pact investigation - focusing on the impact on the lives of the fathers, possible demands on social systems.
- Carl Paladino commercial. Audio provided courtesy of Artvoice.com. Issues he's discussing:
- Outrage on New Yorker cover. As Rush pointed out - who gets upset about cartoons? Muslims!
