Front Porch Political Talk Episode 27: A Fowl Sense

No comments:
This episode was interesting because even in the humor of things there were elements of serious conversation. Or wait, maybe I have that backwards. Either way this was a fun episode to record!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #27: A Fowl Sense

No comments:
It has been a busy week and there are a lot of areas that need discussion. In this episode we are going to talk about some articles that are both serious and humorous at the same time. Many of them seem like the punchline to a bad joke somewhere. Articles for this episode:

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 25: Inhospitable

No comments:
Another interesting show with Naj and the usual crew. The last time we got on the subject of the flag I think we didn't handle it well.  This episode also has a conversation on both the flag and other items of historical context and seemed to be a bit more balanced.

We have talked about expected outcomes and wondered why people are surprised by events. In this episode we are going to look at some rather inhospitable situations that people are going through.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 20: The Results Are In

No comments:
Yup, the results are in and it was definitely a "see we told you so" show in several cases. There are some tangent conversations and it was interesting how some folks took different articles in different ways.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #20: The Results Are In

No comments:
When major policy actions or changes take place, there is always a group that makes predictions that some say will never happen. In this episode we are going to look at cases where they do. They aren't specifically bad results in some cases, rather they are instances where the predictions have run true.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #18: Love and Understanding

No comments:
One of the challenges of political discussions is the lack of understanding that one side has of the other. In this episode we are going to look at some articles that should help us better understand the stance on a number of issues. Whether we are talking about political opponents, activists or terrorists there is some level of rationale, misguided as it may be, behind their actions. This is not to say that we're headed for some kind of "kumbayah" moment at the end of the recording, rather the goal is to glean the method to their madness.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 8: Do We Really Want Change?

No comments:
So we had great conversation about whether or not folks really do want change.  From that discussion the answer is yes with an asterisk.  That asterisk is because the people that have to be elected work very hard to ensure that they stay elected, even if that means not taking true action on the things that they talk about "fixing."

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #8: Do We Really Want Change?

No comments:
There's been a lot of talk about changing things and fixing problems but it seems like a lot of people don't truly want this to happen. In this episode we are going to look at a number of examples of this based on CPAC and other actions from the past week.

We're also moving forward with the website changeover, some updates in Second Life and additional items.  A plan for three main sponsorship levels is being worked on with very affordable membership levels.  Once those are does we'll share them with everyone.

Episode 349: Some People Need Help

No comments:
In contrast to last week's episode, this one hit on all cylinders and we were able to have a good, solid discussion about the various connotations to "needing help." These ranged from the "bless their heart" concept to legislative action to areas that truly do need a considered level of assistance.

We even started to talk about an article that was in the "extra reading" list (sorry about that, I couldn't continue on the nudist camp conversation) and brought up a local primary election for me that had me picking based on some very limited information.

Articles for Episode 349: Some People Need Help

No comments:
There are different connotations of the phrase, "need help." In this episode we're going to explore a few of those. We've got articles looking at outrageous statements, strange mandates and areas where assistance is truly needed. Keeping with the changes there's no "fun" opening article, things are too important this week and the absurd can sometimes get in the way.

Episode 348: Doing Hard Work

No comments:
This episode was actually more difficult to post than most. That's not because of technical issues but rather because I think this one sets a record for how off-base the show premise was from the articles. The conversation was even more off-base from the articles. We had a lot of fun with the conversation and there's a lot of information... just not the information I expected as the show notes were being compiled.

Articles for Episode 348: Doing Hard Work

No comments:
Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." In this episode we're going to look at politicians that might have picked the wrong career path. Politics can sometimes be hard work and if your heart isn't in it then it's definitely not for you.

After careful consideration, the Madlibs are being scratched from the lineup for now. It was too much work for not enough humor. Thanks to those that participated, we'll work on different openings as time goes on.

Episode 330: Striking an Accord

No comments:
This episode turned out to be a good example of how to look beyond the headline to the content hidden underneath. It seems like so many of the stories had more to tell than the title implied. It was a great conversation!

At the end of the episode is a dedication to one of the show's big supporters. Jimmie Jones, my step-father and role model passed away in April and I felt it only fitting to dedicate this show to him.

Articles for Episode 330: Striking an Accord

No comments:
While compromise is not a dirty word, there are still concepts and beliefs that can not be given up on. In this episode we're going to discuss areas where reaching an agreement sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

My apologies for the short notice on last week's episode. There were personal issues that had to be dealt with. An explanation will be made during this recording.

Episode 322: Clowning Around

I'm a bit late in posting this episode, I'll blame it on the polar vortex. We had a lot of fun with this episode discussing different articles that all come from the "you can't make this up" stack.

Articles for Episode 322: Clowning Around

No comments:
Every week we open with a fun or human interest story and through the recording we try to have fun with the conversation. In this episode we're going to look at some stories that fall under the heading of, "you just can't make this stuff up!" Whether we're looking at actual clowns, spending, marriage or climate change these articles will definitely start a conversation. How much of it turns into rolling punch-lines is up for debate!

There were a lot of these kinds of articles this week. Not all could make the list so here are some others.

Episode 315: Freezing Out

No comments:
Suffice to say that there was nothing frosty about this episode beyond the weather references and the points that we were trying to make. There were also come interesting learning points about the history of education and the impact that it has on the perception of students about America's past. The weather also had an impact on the posting of this episode. We're thawing out now!

We're extremely close to reaching our goal of joining the Boost radio network! We only need to get to $400 to fully fund the first quarter's participation. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. If we do not make the goal then the money is going to be used to improve the podcast in some way, so don't think that your donation is going to just be lost.

Articles for Episode 315: Freezing Out

No comments:
The news seems to be tied to the weather these days, with frigid temperatures and a cold political scene (though those could be reversed). In this episode we're going to look at ways that conservative voices and the words of those that want to see something more than gridlock or status-quo are being treated. There are also examples where the left seems to be hogging the spotlight with sadistic glee. Hopefully we can bolster some ways to address the discrepancy.

While our fundraising campaign did not meet the level needed to join the Boost radio network for the first quarter, the fundraiser is still on! We are in discussions with the network about an abridged quarter, so the push is still on! If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. If you have any problems donating please contact us at conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Articles for this episode:
