Articles for Episode 258: Failures At Home and Abroad

Back to our regular time, we've got a bit of a doozie planned. Heading into the end of the year we see the status quo acting exactly as expected. There are things that need to be dealt with both domestically and abroad and the handling of it leaves much to be desired.

Before we get into the articles, I have to ask a favor. Please go to Red State Talk Radio's 2012 Talk Show of the Year poll and vote for our show. We can't do this without your support. Here are the articles for this episode:
You can bet there were other articles. Here they are:

Video Episode 5: An Open Letter to Republicans

This is my "response to the election" post.  It's an open letter to conservatives and Republicans.  I am including this post as both a video and the actual letter.  Some of the wording is a bit different but it's worth watching and then reading.

For those that have listened to our Election Night coverage final episode on the podcast feed (you can get it by going to our TalkShoe page), you will no doubt hear how I initially reacted to the election results.  I, like so many other conservatives, thought that there was a good chance for Governor Romney to win the election.  I've taken a few days to digest the truth and fiction of the election results and want to share my thoughts and ideas on where we as conservatives need to go in order to move forward.  This is especially true for the Republican party.

Episode 253: A Growing Case

We coined a new Twitter hashtag in this episode... or at least it will be soon!  The Obama campaign's defenses have now brought back race as an issue with such vigor that it can no longer be called "Playing the Race Card."  This time they're pounding it so hard, I'm going to start tagging it with #RaceHammer because they're coming out like a barbarian wielding a double-headed sledgehammer!

Ken has returned from his hiatus and it was good to have him back on the call.  We talked about the reasons the Obama campaign is twisting, spinning and reaching for every angle in the campaign playbook and then brought out the things they're doing.

Looking at the polls, the "Mittmentum" (as Limbaugh coined it) is picking up! This makes the case that the Obama campaign is growing more and more desperate for every vote it can eke out. They're starting to pull out all the stops an it shows.

Here are the articles we're going to be discussing:
There is a lot beyond this going on in the news. Please take the time to read through some of the other stories for the week

Episode 252: Internet and Foreign Policies

A lot of fun in this episode, with David Oatney as well as a round-table of Shorahmin, Toawa, Joesf and Tom from Secondlife.  David is a Tennessee State House Examiner, Western Religion and Elections examiner for Examiner.com. We didn't manage to get through all of the articles but rather jumped through two different sets of subjects.

There have been a lot of claims that this election cycle is more polarized than ever. In this episode we're going to look at some of the things happening online and overseas. Here are the articles we're going to be talking about tonight:
There was a lot of news during the week, here are some other articles up for discussion:

Video Episode 3: Post Debate Comment

After watching and listening to the first Presidential debate tonight, I had to record a quick comment and response.  What did you think?

I also assigned something of a homework question, which I'll see about putting up as a poll as well.  Did "candidate" Obama provide the same level of specifics and details for his plans in 2008 that his campaign is now asking Romney for?

Episdode 249: Support and Supporters

The articles for this episode give examples of the supporters of the candidates and show the "love and kindness" in the heart of those on Obama's side of the ticket.  We had a good time talking about them and some of their ramifications.  My apologies go to any Madonna fans.  Ken didn't want to hear about it either.

It's also time for the 8th Annual People's Choice Podcast Awards nominations to start up!  During the nomination period there will be a banner linking to the nomination page.  I urge each and every listener to collect their 22 favorite podcasts (hopefully this is one of them) and nominate them for an award!  You have to hurry, though, as the nominations are only open from October 1st to October 15th and you can only cast one ballot.  We're asking for your nominations in the "Peoples Choice" and "Politics / News" categories.

With the emphasis in the last episode on staying positive, I thought this time we might take a look at some of the examples out there of supporters... and how they're supporting their chosen candidate. There are examples of both positive and negative support in the list.
There were a lot of articles out there from the past week. As I've explained on the show, we pick the ones that form a cohesive subject but include the rest for further reading. Take the time to peruse these, there's a whole lot more going on than we could cover in one episode!

Video Episode 2: Church Issues

It took a while but we finally have our second video issue out.  I took the opportunity of something that was mentioned briefly in Episode 248 regarding the 1,000 or so pastors that intend to make a political statement from the pulpit on October 7.

Here's the link to an article that covers what I'm taking about in the video: Pastors pledge to defy IRS, preach politics from pulpit ahead of election

Thanks for watching!

Episdode 248: Trying to Stay Positive

As I said in the show notes article, we started the show off trying to stay positive... and for the most part we managed to succeed!  There were a few times that I had to remind Ken (and myself) of our goal but according to feedback from folks during the recording session we did a "fairly passable" job.  What do you think?

Episode 245: Standings and Values

As promised, we took the time tonight to look behind the speeches and dig in to the news behind the GOP convention.  There's a lot of meat to the 47 page document and we only had time to cover a few of the issues.  There are so many other things to talk about on this, so feel free to bring up any of the items you want to discuss in the comments.

Episode 244: Framing the Debate

Wow!  Tonight's episode went as planned but it definitely had a few explosive moments... in the interest of showing that we're not all mind-numbed robots, there's an interesting exchange that you'll need to keep an ear out for somewhere in the audio.

We talked about the concept of "Framing the Debate" and asked one homework question: What good sound byte can our side make to reset various debate issues.  These include taxes (specifically the concept of the 1%) and abortion.  Tweet your ideas to me at @ECConservative or post them as a comment here.

For so long, the folks on the left have appeared to dominate the talking points when it comes to political debate. Tonight we're going to look at examples of these, including the Aiken Incident, and talk about ways to counter assertions. While we're going to be talking in general terms on some issues, there are articles to back up what much of the concept. Here they are:
Of course there's other news out there, here are some other things that could be talked about:

Episode 243: What They Stand For

Back to our regular format, with Ken back and more news to discuss. We actually managed to get through almost all of the news articles for this episode... even when Ken added one to the list!

Click Here to download the podcast, or listen using the Blubrry player (the blue ball on the right of the page).

During the recording, there were a few things that ended up getting added or mentioned. They included a news article that Ken added about "Crumb and Get It", who told Joe Biden's advance team 'no' when they asked if the Vice President could stop by.

I made reference to an economics video that is currently playing in the Conservative University in Second Life that goes over some rather disturbing facts regarding taxes, spending and what it might take to cover the budget deficit as it exists today. I'll include that video in a separate post.

Finally, Shorahmin also mentioned a 1956 book by Edwin O'Connor entitled The Last Hurrah that was provided as recommended reading.

Episode 242: Analyzing Decisions

Well, this episode turned out almost exactly as I had expected it to - we didn't get to a single article in the list.  We didn't even get around to running an analysis of the acceptance speech given by Paul Ryan!  What we had instead was a very lively round-table with myself, Tom, Shorahmin, Joesf and Toawa.  We were also joined by Ron Skytower, host of the Conservative Matters podcast from days back.

While each of us had our own thoughts and opinions, we'd love to hear your answers to our round-table questions.  Let us know what you think about this new R2 ticket and where the campaign will go from here.
