Episode 327: They're Not Even Trying

This episode was a bit more sedate but no less informative and interesting.  We talked about some good examples of cronyism and chaos in the system being created only to serve the interests of those in power.

At this point you'd have to be either brainwashed or blind not to see that our elected and appointed officials are working the system. In this episode we look at several examples where the pandering is completely obvious.

Episode 324: Shameful Actions

This was a fun episode! It was interesting to see the take that different audience members had on the t-shirt story as well as the whistleblower concept. Also, there's a shocker in this one where I actually agree with Senator Gillibrand!

Personal issues on my side kept me from posting until today. As I wrap up my MBA I may be behind on posting but the recordings are definitely being made.

As we look through the articles this week we see examples of shameful, or at least what should be considered it, activity on a lot of different fronts. We're going to discuss these in this episode.

Articles for this episode:
There was a lot on the twitter feed this week but I pared the list down to some other important reading.

I'm a bit late in posting this episode, I'll blame it on the polar vortex. We had a lot of fun with this episode discussing different articles that all come from the "you can't make this up" stack.

Every week we open with a fun or human interest story and through the recording we try to have fun with the conversation. In this episode we're going to look at some stories that fall under the heading of, "you just can't make this stuff up!" Whether we're looking at actual clowns, spending, marriage or climate change these articles will definitely start a conversation. How much of it turns into rolling punch-lines is up for debate!

There were a lot of these kinds of articles this week. Not all could make the list so here are some others.

Episode 321: Selective Prosecution and Enforcement

This episode almost got me in trouble! Not from anything I said but because it got a bit lound and I had to raise my voice. We had a lot of interaction with callers and folks participating in TalkShoe and SecondLife! We actually stayed on topic more often than not and there are some good learning moments amongst the laughter.

In our last episode we talked about folks that were legitimately using different systems and concepts in unexpected ways. In this one we look at some instances where people are trying to use the system selectively for their own gain. We're going to discuss these and their impact on both the Rule of Law and the American psyche.

Thanks to your support, we are on the air with Boost Radio Network! Listen in 7-8pm on Wednesday nights. This does not mean that our fundraising campaign is done though, as we still have three more quarters to fully fund. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. If you have any problems donating please contact us at conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Articles for this episode:

Episode 315: Freezing Out

Suffice to say that there was nothing frosty about this episode beyond the weather references and the points that we were trying to make. There were also come interesting learning points about the history of education and the impact that it has on the perception of students about America's past. The weather also had an impact on the posting of this episode. We're thawing out now!

We're extremely close to reaching our goal of joining the Boost radio network! We only need to get to $400 to fully fund the first quarter's participation. If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right. If we do not make the goal then the money is going to be used to improve the podcast in some way, so don't think that your donation is going to just be lost.

The news seems to be tied to the weather these days, with frigid temperatures and a cold political scene (though those could be reversed). In this episode we're going to look at ways that conservative voices and the words of those that want to see something more than gridlock or status-quo are being treated. There are also examples where the left seems to be hogging the spotlight with sadistic glee. Hopefully we can bolster some ways to address the discrepancy.

While our fundraising campaign did not meet the level needed to join the Boost radio network for the first quarter, the fundraiser is still on! We are in discussions with the network about an abridged quarter, so the push is still on! If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. Episode 312: Follow the Power, Follow the Money

This was a bit more sedate of an episode. These happen from time to time, the subject is a solid one and the information is good. There are some areas where Joesf and I had different takes on an item, especially with the budget bill that was recently passed by the House.

We've officially launched our funding campaign to join the Boost Network in January! If you want to help take the podcast to the next level, please click the "GoFundMe" button on the right.

A common phrase that is used in political conversation is, "follow the money." It's more than that in today's environment, we also have to, "follow the power." In this episode we look at a number of articles where we need to follow the power and sometimes follow the money.

We have launched a fundraising campaign to take our podcast to the next level. The final goal of this campaign is $1,850 and will allow us to join the Boost Radio Network. This represents a huge change for us and we're excited to see the results. If you would like to donate use the link on the right hand side of the site. We had an excellent time talking with Assemblywoman Jane Corwin from New York.  A large amount of the conversation was spent discussing the New York SAFE Act but several other topics were covered as well.  While we didn't touch a single one of the articles on the list, we definitely covered the subject material very thoroughly.  It's interesting to hear the situation from the viewpoint of someone that's involved in the process.

If you want to learn more about Assemblywoman Corwin you can visit her website at JaneCorwin.com. The show notes also includes a short biography.

Tonight we are joined by a special guest, Assemblywoman Jane Corwin. Mrs. Corwin will be talking with us tonight about a variety of issues including the New York SAFE Act, Jobs, the New York economy and more. Along with the interview there are a number of other items that I've included in the show notes. We may or may not get to them, it all depends on the interview and the conversation around it. Articles for this episode:

More about Jane Corwin:

Jane Lewis Corwin was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 4, 2008 and represents what is now the 144th Assembly District.

Jane is a proud full-time mother of three, Melanie, Kellie and Will, and, like any mother, she wants to give our children the best opportunity for a successful future in any endeavors they which to pursue. She continues to work tirelessly in representing the voice of her community in Albany so our children have those opportunities and are not forced to relocate due to a struggling economic and business climate.

Since being elected in 2008, Jane has stood firm in her message of fiscal conservatism, accountability for lawmakers, and focusing on growing our upstate economy by supporting small businesses.

Episode 295: Progessive Infection

Every week when I post a new episode I try to come up with a different way to say that it was a fun one. While this week is no different, it wasn't just fun it was also educational. Looking at the current activities and how they all represent symptoms of this Progressive infection that has been eating at the concepts of our Constitutional founding has been an eye-opening experience. We even have to admit that many of the political planks espoused by both parties are rife with the stain!

Something else that I do in every episode is explain how folks can participate. This will become even more important as we continue to look at this infection and expose it to the light of day. Considerate and civil discourse is needed in every episode and all are invited to participate! Even if you can't join in for our Sunday night recording sessions, take some time and share your thoughts, even if they are simply to agree with us.

It's time for a new book recommendation from our sponsor! You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audio book by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up. I've been using my Audible subscription to listen to The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. They list not only the changes that Mr. Levin recommends but also the historical back-story for each one. This listening experience will have any jaw on the floor, both with where the country has gone and where politicians promise to take it. We'll actually be taking some time during upcoming episodes to discuss these proposals at length, so if you want to participate in them take advantage of an Audible credit and get the book now!

After my comment last week on the supposed good intentions of those proposing government action, I would be remiss in not talking about the opposite. This week we're going to talk about the counter to the concept of government intervention and discuss articles where the government has gone to lengths and depths that it was never intended to be found.

I've had a very eye-opening experience that I also wanted to share. As a part of my Audible subscription I've been listening to The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. In the book, he outlines Constitutional Amendments aimed at bringing the Federal government back into the shape originally considered by the Founding Fathers. More than that, he brings in Federalist and Anti-Federalist writings, court decisions, other historical backup and compares that to the actions of the government since it's founding. More from the twitter feed this week.  There's actually other articles to be found there but I trimmed them down to a manageable gaggle for reading and commenting.

Episode 289: Still News But Not In It

This was an interesting episode, with a few tangents and some good conversation. Being on vacation my schedule got thrown a bit so my apologies in posting it late.

We didn't get through all of the articles (when is this ever a surprise?) but we did talk about things that for one reason or another have been taken out of the limelight for whatever reason.

The title may seem a bit incomplete, but when you look at the articles for the week it makes sense.  Watching the news this week, I got the distinct impression that some would like history to be forgotten. Unfortunately it can't be, so in this episode we're going to look at stories that aren't exactly, "top of the list" for conversation.

Not that many other stories this week. It's been a slow news cycle I guess.

Episode 285: Addressing Growth

Quite the interesting discussion in this episode, first with Mike Garcar, Field Director for the Ohio College Republican Foundation and then with Fabian Story, a man with a lot of campaign experience under his own belt. Unfortunately Mike was not able to stay with us for the whole show and we hope he can join us again!

This was one of those episodes, however, where we didn't even make it into the opening article. This means that we'll need to take time during the week to talk about some of them.

As time marches on, one thing that has to be considered by any organization is how it can expand membership for the future. Tonight we have a special guest, Mike Garcar, Field Director for the Ohio College Republican Federation. We'll be talking with him about the challenges that the GOP faces reaching out to the millennial generation.

We've also got our regular round of articles that we'll be discussing, hopefully with Mike joining us to add his perspective, so it's going to be a busy show!

A few other articles in the list, not as many as other episodes but still some stores worth stirring up.
