Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #50: Does The System Work?

This may seem like a rather blunt question, but does the "system" still work? By that I refer to the bureaucracy, policies and implementation of documents that we use in America. In this episode we're going to look at a number of articles where people look at this question in different ways.

It is important for people to take responsibility for their actions and hopefully be proud of them. In this episode we are looking at articles where this should be the case. It isn't always but that's what we get to discuss along the way.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 37: Neither Now Nor Later

Well, this was an interesting show and didn't go exactly the way we planned.  Conversations that include Common Core can sometimes be tense and this one did not fail in that regard.  We also spent a lot of time talking about the Oregon shooting, the victims and the Constitutional challenges with either preventing or detecting activities.  It's not a light conversation by any means but one that must be had.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #37: Neither Now Nor Later

Another busy news week that brings a lot of conversation topics to the table. In this episode we are looking at the concept of how the past as defined by leaders of the present defines the future. Things may appear on the surface to be all over the place but by the end of the show we'll have a cohesive conversation that makes sense.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 34: What to Believe

This was a great show and we had a lot of fun with it!  During the show, Toawa mentioned an interview about the Iran nuclear deals and followed up with a link to the interview with someone familiar with the IAEA standards. A transcript of that interview can be found at http://scotthorton.org/interviews/2015/08/21/tariq-rauf/.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #21: The Horror of Things to Come

Last week we talked about predictions and their results and this week we're going to discuss articles that indicate how things might look in the future. These aren't crackpot predictions, rather they're current events with ominous overtones.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 19: Extreme Reactions

I think we managed to avoid, or at least prepare for, our own extreme reactions during the discussion. There were definitely some wild reactions from others, including those in the chat!

As I mentioned during the recording, we will be taking a break this upcoming weekend. There will be no recording or show for Sunday, May 24th. We'll be back for a new show the following Sunday. We hope to see you then!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #19: Extreme Reactions

While we strive for some level of understanding, there are times when an extreme, guttural reaction can be found. A lot of this hinges on the personal and emotional response. In this episode we look at some extreme reactions others have had.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 18: Love and Understanding

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #18: Love and Understanding

One of the challenges of political discussions is the lack of understanding that one side has of the other. In this episode we are going to look at some articles that should help us better understand the stance on a number of issues. Whether we are talking about political opponents, activists or terrorists there is some level of rationale, misguided as it may be, behind their actions. This is not to say that we're headed for some kind of "kumbayah" moment at the end of the recording, rather the goal is to glean the method to their madness.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 17: Setting the Stage

The stage was set for a fun episode and I think we delivered on that promise. As usual we did not make it through all of the articles but we did have fun discussing the ones we got to.  I think one of the best aspects of our round-table is that the opinions shared cover a range of viewpoints.  This can be seen during our discussion regarding the Baltimore "protests".
