Episode 284: For Their Own Good

It seems I managed to pull in articles that got everyone's blood boiling! This episode has to be one of the more lively in some time, and not because of bad jokes. All of our callers and a few folks in SecondLife had thoughts to add to the conversation

In our next episode we'll be talking with Mike Garcar, a Field Director for the Ohio College Republican Federation, Romney campaign worker and upcoming author. We'll be talking about his observations about engaging the millennial generation.

One of the things we count on elected and appointed officials to do is act in the best interests of their constituents. In this episode we are going to look at actions that have been taken where this does not seem to be the case. From those who have won elections down to school officials, it seems that reactions and plans are more of an assault on sensibility than anything.

Episode 282: Making Life Difficult

Wow, talking about making life difficult indeed! First, there have been technical issues with TalkShoe for the last two weeks. Then we throw in my own verbal malfunctions during the show, and the subjects and excellent turnout made this an episode that was fun and frustrating at the same time. We had great input from all of our guests, both in TalkShoe and in Second Life. If you haven't been able to make a live recording session, I'd invite you to do so!

We did work very hard to keep the conversation civil. Sometimes we didn't stay on the list of articles but that just added spice to the conversation. Definitely worth the listen. One administrative note. Due to technical confusion, last week's episode did not make it to the Red State Talk Radio network on time. It will be running until Wednesday, when this episode will replace it. We'll be back on schedule there starting with the next episode.

There are times when maintaining civility in political discourse is going to be a challenging task. This is one such week, as the articles for the show attest. We're going to try to get through a conversation about these with the best possible attitude. Should be an interesting challenge!

Articles for this episode:
This week provided a lot of different things to discuss beyond what was selected for the show. Here are some of the other articles that were tweeted @ECConservative:

Our founding documents afford the individal many protections, including concepts like free expression, religious worship and, "the pursit of happiness." In this episode we've got some interesting articles talking about the concepts of free speech and spending money. Join us for the recording session Sundays at 8:30pm on TalkShoe! Here are the articles for this episode:
Many of the "extra" articles actually fit the subject for the show. Unfortunately we can't fit them all in every week. Here are the other stories that caught our eye:

In today’s world, ignorance is never bliss. On tonight’s show we’re going to look at what I consider to be a few teachable moments. There are articles on civility, consumer censorship, common sense and current candidates.

Click Here to download the show or open the Blubrry player on the right (the blue round thing). Thanks for listening!

We had a bit of a late start tonight due to some family issues but after we got the ball rolling it was a laugh a minute! The list of articles actually had to be shortened quite a bit to keep from running well over our normal time!

If you like what you heard, blog about us and tell five friends! Better yet, visit our Facebook page and follow the show there! If you didn't like the show, we invite you to come back next week for different words in a different order.

Episode 109: Yes Gwen, There is a Santa Claus

Our last show of the year, but definitely not our last show! We had quite a lot of fun with the show tonight and got through a LOT of stories. We still had to dump a couple.

Tonight's show has some good and some not so good examples of this year's proof that there is still a Santa Claus. Unfortunately we've also got some stories that talk about various attacks on the Christmas holiday.

Article list for tonight (though we didn't get to the last two):
As I say in the podcast - if you like the show, blog about us and tell four friends and blog about us! If you didn't like tonight's show, we invite you back next week where you will hear different words in a different order.

Episode 39: Clinton's Arresting Run Strikes Dog Dreams of Majority

A good show tonight, lots of participants in the chat and in Second Life! We have three things we're putting a call out for -
  1. As Ken mentioned last week, we're putting out a call for guests to help us out by opening the show for us. It can be live during the show or it can be pre-recorded and sent via email. If you're interested, email conservativepodcast@gmail.com.
  2. Next is something we desperately need. For those who have seen our website, it's very text heavy. I'm looking for someone that is more graphically oriented to help us design a logo, color scheme and layout to work with our site. Again, if you're interested, email.
  3. Finally, following up on something Ken mentioned in the last show, once we get a logo and brand set up, the idea has been floated about offering some kind of merchandise
Tonight's show had some technical issues with the streaming audio into Second Life. If you're experiencing these issues please let us know so we can notify the folks at TalkShoe! Discussed on tonight's show -

We thank everyone for listening! If you like our show, I'm going to ask you to tell three friends you think might enjoy it too. If you didn't, then wait until next week when we'll have different words in a different order.

This week was a tough one to pick articles for - there was SO MUCH to talk about tonight! In addition, my Step-father Jim called in and added his thoughts to the mix. We also experimented with a new concept - simulcasting the show into Second Life with the help of the Republican Party of Second Life. Be sure to check out their podcast, Conservative Matters with Ron Skytower. Articles discussed on tonight's show:
Click Here to download tonight's episode! If you want to leave a comment, you can post it here on the website or send us an email to conservativepodcast@gmail.com. If you want to be a part of the show, we record every Sunday night at 8:30pm using the TalkShoe network. See you there! We thank everyone that listened in tonight... both in our chat room, on the phone and now in Second Life. We also thank everyone that downloads the past episodes and listens when they can. After the show I popped in to the auditorium to get feedback and reaction and it was all good, so I think it'll happen again!

EPISODE22: Teachers Battle Dark Divorces

Quite the list of topics for the evening! We thank Adam Graham of the Truth and Home Report and Robert of Radio free Dixieland.

As has become custom, we started with some weird news to loosen up the brain cells, then we dove headlong into the topics!

Family values set the tone of the conversation right from the beginning, starting off with an article that put a $112 Billion bill on divorce and unwed parenting! We went on for a while about the concept of parenting and marriage and then went right into an article about a court case in Virginia regarding a same-sex custody battle.

While we were talking about same-sex couples, we had to touch on the ruling by a Florida judge, upholding the decision to ban a "Gay Awareness" club in a high school.

Then we decided to talk about matters Green - namely the Dark Side of bio-diesel. Robert reported that he had purchased a conversion kit to run his car on E85 but switched back to Unleaded because of the barely unnoticeable difference in price based on mileage and efficiency.

To wrap up, Ken provided us with an update of sorts on the Teacher sex scandals. Apparently the union and some other folks are saying that the scandals are happening because some of the teachers aren't classically trained. We went on for a while on things that are the same and things that have changed.

Tune in next week! We record live every Sunday at 8:30pm. Comments can be left here on the website or emailed directly to conservativepodcast@gmail.com. Next week we plan on talking about hormones, the health of our children and what some companies are doing about it. It promises to be quite fun!

Another successful show! Based on some research, the podcast now has twice as many episodes as the "burn-out" point. Speaking of burning, our feed has moved to http://feeds.feedburner.com/EastCoastConservative, please update your RSS reader!

We invite you to call in to a recording session! You can go to our Talk Cast page to see the status of the show. From there you can listen in, join in using your computer or call in to 724-444-7444. Just me an Ken tonight (but that's just fine) and we had some interesting topics to bring up! Buffalo's school board has some issues, Florida has a "Marriage Protection" amendment on the fall ballot... and some issues.

Show Notes:

A few different times, Ken and I made reference to past shows. They can be downloaded from our site or from the TalkCast page.
