Episode 297: Discriminating Minds

The question of the night was if certain groups were being discriminated against and there was not a specific answer. We shuffled articles around a bit and had a good time.

I'm finishing up my listen of The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. They list not only the changes that Mr. Levin recommends but also the historical back-story for each one. We'll actually be taking some time during upcoming episodes to discuss these proposals at length, so if you want to participate in them take advantage of an Audible credit and get the book now!  What Audible credit?  You can get a free 30 day trial at Audible.com as well as a free audio book by going to http://www.audibletrial.com/eastcoastconservative and signing up.

Given that this week included the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech at a rally in Washington DC, I wanted to look at some modern impacts of the policies and how off track or obscure some of them have to go to attempt to relate to it. In this episode we are going to be talking about a number of different subjects, most of them claiming discrimination. Are those claims valid?

Episode 296: Roles

This was a rather interesting episode. We didn't make it through all of the articles but that's not a big surprise. The articles clearly pointed out a point that government has expanded well beyond its originally designed role set.

I did assign a bit of homework with this episode. Write down the job descriptions for elected officials you can think of without looking them up, then go online and check your work. I mentioned President, Federal Senator and Representative, State Senator and Representative and Governor. If you have other offices you want to look up feel free!

I've been using my Audible subscription to listen to The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin. They list not only the changes that Mr. Levin recommends but also the historical back-story for each one. When we look at current events through the lens of history, we see that that changes in our country have come from many places. Both those politicians that would push a Progressive agenda and citizenry that are either idly or actively complicit are to blame.

If you ask the "man on the street" what the job description for various elected offices are, I'm pretty sure you would get a wide array of answers. The same is true if you asked candidates or elected officials. The sad thing is, most of them would be incorrect. In this episode we're going to talk about the roles of various offices as they have been interpreted and implemented. Articles for this episode:

Episode 294: They Think They Know

We had a fun time talking about what people thought they knew… on a variety of different issues. In most of the cases the concensus was that the people involved didn't think much beyond the "good idea".

One thing I mentioned in the intro that I want to reiterate here in text. That is your opportunity to be a part of the podcast. We don't care where you are or your "stated political leanings" so long as you're willing to join in the conversation and keep things civil. Our podcast isn't strictly about the East Coast, nor does everyone that participates have to be a conservative! If you feel you've got something to add and can verbalize it well, feel free to call in.

The recommended book for this week is "Sh-t My Dad Says" by Justin Halpern. It's an interesting look and a reminder to delve beyond the gruff exterior of people around us. Despite what Joesf says in the recording, we're not sponsored by Rosetta Stone... as funny as the bit was!

I have long thought that most government actions, especially when it comes to domestic policy, start with a nugget of good will or a good idea and then becomes corrupted as it makes its way through the system. In this episode we're going to be examining the actions that could cause such changes to happen to a good idea as to make them profoundly bad.

Episode 266: Moves Toward Change

The concept for this episode was to discuss some of the things that were moving forward with the GOP and conservative ideas. We looked at the question, "is it enough?" The answer came back an underwhelming, "maybe."  There's a lot more to talk about but we're somewhat encouraged by Rep. Ryan's concept of, "pick your battles."  The important question is whether or not the Republican leadership will follow through with this.

We've gotten some responses from our product poll and are working on designs for coffee cups, mugs, bumper stickers, and other non-clothing type items. Look for a link to our new store to be online starting in February!

I'm not sure if it's the holiday season, the weather or the pending doom of the Mayan calander. Either we're going crazy or it's the new normal. Tonight we're going to talk about fascinating stuff, though sometimes not fascinating in a good way. Here are the articles we've got to dissect:
Of course there's a lot more going on out there. Here's some more reading

The articles for this episode give examples of the supporters of the candidates and show the "love and kindness" in the heart of those on Obama's side of the ticket.  We had a good time talking about them and some of their ramifications.  My apologies go to any Madonna fans.  Ken didn't want to hear about it either.

It's also time for the 8th Annual People's Choice Podcast Awards nominations to start up!  During the nomination period there will be a banner linking to the nomination page.  I urge each and every listener to collect their 22 favorite podcasts (hopefully this is one of them) and nominate them for an award!  You have to hurry, though, as the nominations are only open from October 1st to October 15th and you can only cast one ballot.  We're asking for your nominations in the "Peoples Choice" and "Politics / News" categories.

With the emphasis in the last episode on staying positive, I thought this time we might take a look at some of the examples out there of supporters... and how they're supporting their chosen candidate. There are examples of both positive and negative support in the list.
There were a lot of articles out there from the past week. As I've explained on the show, we pick the ones that form a cohesive subject but include the rest for further reading. Take the time to peruse these, there's a whole lot more going on than we could cover in one episode!

For the last two weeks we have had round-table discussions about how news articles can be used by campaigns. Tonight we're going to look into the decisions that campaigns have made to move their candidates forward.

Episode 234: Spending, Taxing, Voting and Revenge

It's been another very busy week for me so getting the show posted was late - again.  Hopefully after things get a bit more settled in for the summer schedule we'll get back on track for posting the episodes.  The recording schedule is spot-on, every Sunday night at 8:30pm, and you can listen to episodes as they're being made... even be a part of them if you like!  Other distribution channels, such is iTunes and Red State Talk Radio, are updated on Sunday nights as well.

In this episode we had a ton of fun with special guest David Oatney, who called in and joined the chorus of call-in guests.  We had something of a round-table with the various issues and still managed to make folks chuckle here and there at the same time!

Normally we don't repeat titles, but for this episode we are going to be continuing on the conversation from last week. We talked mostly about GOP candidates last time, now it's time to look at what's being said on the left.

Episode 173: Tinfoil Hat Optional

It’s about time for another episode of 'tin-foil alley,' where the hat is optional but the conspiracy theories are not!  While we generally get a good chuckle and shake our heads at those articles that seem a bit fantastical, we've got a few that may well ring true.  We start with mind control and pretty much move down-hill from there.

We had a lot of fun talking about subjects - both conspiratorial and not.  We even had an interruption by those pesky black helicopters a couple of times!  Camden in SecondLife was kind enough to create the Official East Coast Conservative Podcast Tinfoil Hat!

Episode 172: They Said It!

In this episode we repeated some things that other folks have said and discussed them.  Now, we do not necessarily going to agree with them, but what has been said deserves repeating, if nothing else so they can be taken as a warning of idiocy that can exist in the human mind!

This was a really fun episode that coined a new jibe, “We’ve got England, we’ve got France... we see Qaddafi’s underpants!” (or is that Kadafi... or maybe Gaddafi... I don’t know, neither do most editors, see this story for more examples).  Also, if you had problems listening to last week’s episode, please re-download.  There was a problem in the recording file for the first 24 hours or so.

Episode 171: Paying Attention to the Edges

It’s time again for us to look at the news stories that are being overshadowed by Japan, Lybia and the associated fallout.

Tonight was a fun show and an example of how Ken and I don’t always agree. We had fun talking about a number of different issues, pontificating the concepts of 2012 and got stuck on the concept of what to do about the Somali pirates.
