Episode 281: Following the Same Rules

This episode turned out well despite TalkShoe's best efforts! There were some technical difficulties causing the live recording to be delayed and I had limited control until the end of the show. Regardless, we had a good time talking about the popular issues from the past week from a different angle.

During the last episode I talked about keeping the conversation civil, not being insulting or defamatory and looking at examples of stories where that didn't happen. Those concepts only work if both sides are playing by the same rules. It's apparent that this isn't the case, as is pointed out in the articles for this episode. The question is, what do we do about that and how should it be addressed moving forward?

Episode 280: Communication Necessities

Administrative comment: Continually apologizing for the late posts and then posting late the following week is getting a tad repetitive, so I'll explain rather than make excuses. There are some big things being planned for the podcast as well as a new endeavor. Nothing is going to change for quite some time (in Internet terms of time, at least), however if you're a blogger, podcaster or vodcaster that is interested in hearing more about the rumblings of an interesting project, contact me directly.

This week we talked about the things necessary for a good, civil conversation. We also identified the real definition of the concept and also what it is not. Civility does not equate with watering down or with changing a message just to make it palatable to a wide audience. If you want to hear more, listen to the podcast!

There are some required aspects for effective communication, whether the subject is politics, the weather or a shopping list. In this episode we're going to look at some news articles that are examples of where these are noticeably missing from one side or the other. Let's talk about them and see how we can improve the conversation!

Episode 278: Safety Precautions

A bit late getting this episode posted to the website, sorry about that. It was a good conversation about the events in Boston, while working hard to discuss new items and not simply go on about the same issues everyone else had been talking about.

There was quite the conversation about schooling, especially home schooling in light of some of the articles that have come out lately. Which camp do you fall in? Do you think parents should keep their kids in the system and fight the bureaucracy from within or pull their kids out and challenge the system on behalf of others?

After the events of the past week, what are we doing to keep things safe? What's happening in the government to maintain security levels and how are educators working to help our children stay safe? Based on the articles for this episode, it's a rather confusing and twisted answer. Join us to discuss these and other things!

While it's not on the article list, we will be talking about the bombing in Boston as well.  I am specifically not including any of the "liberals had their mind made up," "Bostonians gave up their guns" or any other of the rants that have been flowing around the 'net with reckless abandon.  We're really shooting for, "different words in a different order," this week.

Articles for this episode:
Twitter was a-flitter with a lot of different news stories this week. While we might not get a chance to talk about them, give the a read and add your comments to the conversation about them. Here are some of the other articles that were tweeted @ECConservative:

Episode 267: But Will It Work?

This week we looked at a few different issues and proposals that are being discussed and asked the question, "but will it work?" It's a very lively discussion on immigration, health care and perceptions. We didn't make it through all the articles per-se so look for some topics to come up again in the future.

Our product poll has ended and we're working on getting the pricing worked out on a new store for folks to purchase items from. Look for an updated link in the very near future. Thank you for participating in the poll and thank you for your continued support!

As January ends we begin to see actions taking shape in a (sometime questionable) effort to handle a number of issues. The quesiton we have to as ourselves is, "will it work?" We discuss the issues, the proposed solutions and their effectiveness in this episode. Articles for this episode:
There are many other stories as well… not as many as last week, but they are still worth checking out!

Articles for Episode 250: More Scary Political Games

After the video comment from yesterday, I found some other scary political games for us to discuss on this episode.  This is what we have lined up for this time 'round:
I started to line up articles about the debate, and there are some in the "extra stories" list. That said, everyone else is talking about the debate. I thought it would be more useful to discuss other things. Here are the other articles I pulled this week:

Episode 239: Justice

I'm not exactly sure if justice was served, but we certainly had a good time talking about the articles this week!  Ken and I were joined by Shorahmin and Joesf from SecondLife.  We're also going to be back on our regular schedule for recordings, Sunday nights at 8:30pm Eastern, starting with our next episode.

In this episode we're going to be talking about justice, not the court kind but what has been reported and handed out by individuals or organizations. Yes, this week we're recording on Monday instead of Sunday. As I mentioned in an earlier post, that time schedule worked out better given schedules and vacations. Here are the articles for this episode:
And yes, there's more!

Episode 229: Facts and Allegations

Ken's back this week and as usual we didn't make it through all of the articles but we had a lot of good conversation about the concepts of the "seriousness of the charge" as well as the cop-outs provided by "zero tolerance policies."

Episode 227: Terrorists, Taxes and Truths

All I can say is... WOW!  Tonight's show started off with a blast and took off from there.  We had Joesf and Shorahmin from SecondLife call in to comment on articles and a very lively crew in both the TalkShoe and SecondLife chats.  This made for a very energetic show... one that kept me on my toes from beginning to end.

Normally we don't roll over articles from an episode to the next week, however because of time we had to stop before we got to the Republican's replacement health care proposals.  I've made the commitment to talk about that one next week.

It seems like we do this a lot. The media, working to keep viewers and ratings, focus on loud things that mean little. While the press is off investigating South American shenanigans, we're looking closer to home tonight. We're talking about taxes and Earth Day.

Here are the articles we've got lined up for tonight:
And those articles that didn't make it in the list. They're good reading as well, just didn't match the theme of the episode:

Episode 223: Taps, Tabs and Threats

Well, this was a really fun episode with a ton of listener interaction and news articles that, for whatever reason, don't seem to make the evening news.  We even had two of our regular listeners join in for the last part of the show.

Episode 209: Understanding and Concessions

In this episode we actually talked about the concept of concessions and compromise!  We also had some follow-up articles that had to be included and a disturbing story from Montana about what is and is not considered journalism.

Uh, oh, I used the "C" word, didn't I? As much as it pains me to say this, sometimes a deadlocked Congress isn't best for the people. Tonight we're going to talk about the concepts of compromise (or lack of it) as identified in the news artciles this week. Join us for the recording session at 8:30pm Eastern time either here or at http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/75570. Here are the artciles for this episode:

We had to record this episode a little early because of the Thanksgiving holiday, and with the rush of getting back to work, posting it to the site was a bit delayed. There is much to be thankful for, especially the continued support we get from all of our listeners!
