Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #53: Just Where Is This Bus Going?

We're back after a week off and I have to say I'm wondering exactly where the country is going. The caucus results, news of the day and even the debates have me wondering when the bus driver took a swig! We're going to talk about some of that in this episode

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #50: Does The System Work?

This may seem like a rather blunt question, but does the "system" still work? By that I refer to the bureaucracy, policies and implementation of documents that we use in America. In this episode we're going to look at a number of articles where people look at this question in different ways.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 48: Are We Paying Attention?

Is America paying attention? Are we listening? Do we know the policies and mechanisms that are a part of how our elections work? Do we know what else is going on in the world at large? My hope is that the answer is yes. Sadly I don't know if the answer to any of those questions are yes.

With this last episode of the year I want to say thank you to everyone that has supported our show with comments, prayers, good thoughts and thoughtful feedback.  We are leading into an election year and things will start moving quickly.  It promises to be a lot of fun!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #48: Are We Paying Attention?

Let's do a virtual show of hands here… how many think the American People are paying attention to the Presidential race right now? With Star Wars, Christmas and celebrity gossip all around, have we lost sight of where our nation is going? In this episode we are looking at some news about various campaigns and the bigger picture of what's going on.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 47: America Is Better Than This

A theme was set early on in this episode, rather than saying that America deserves better than what we've gotten we present it as a question. Do we deserve better than what we have now as a nation? Given how the nation has changed in some ways and stayed the same in others, do we deserve better?

While we don't always have to agree on every issue, the thread of conversation has been going in a few directions that are concerning. In this episode we look into a number of areas where our nation deserves better service.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 46: Political Ignorance

Just on the heels of what I feel was one of our best episodes yet, we have an example of what some can rightfully call, "agreeable disagreement." It's worth the listen and asking yourself the questions we pose.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #46: Political Ignorance

While the year draws to a close the political campaigns continue to heat up. During the stump stops and fundraiser dinners many things have been said that raise eyebrows and that's part of the subject for this episode. We are also going to look at some trends that continue to grow and raise concerns of their own.

This episode won't be especially kid friendly only because of some of the implications of language used both in the recording and the referenced articles.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 45: Losing Patience

I think this was one of the most cathartic and complete shows that we've had in a long time. Every week we end up with a lot of questions, regardless of the conversation or subject. In this episode I started off rather angry and the conversation actually helped me put some of the things that I was getting emotional about in a different light. Often having a different perspective or deeper insight into an issue can invoke more thought and I think that's what happened here.

That's one of the big reasons we do this show. Sure, we have fun with different topics and try not to rehash the same stories that are brought up by other shows but at the end of the day it's about the sharing of ideas and insights. We don't have to agree on everything all the time; rather we respect each other's right to their opinion. Be sure to share your thoughts on the articles or our take on them using one of the many methods provided. We'd love to hear from you!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #45: Losing Patience

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 44: Difficult Conversation

Having had this conversation, or at least parts of it, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the outcome. We talked about the pseudo-caliphate to a large degree but even after all of that I don't know that we came to any level of agreement on how it should be viewed.

As I said in the intro, there are some trigger warnings here. Maybe I should have heeded to them.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #44: Difficult Conversation

There has been some time to let the dust settle from the attacks last week and after watching the lunacy from several places I felt it was time to have a difficult conversation. These are things that need to be said, whether about the terrorist group itself or the responses that have been made to their actions.

This is not going to be an especially "kid friendly" episode, regardless of the rules on language that govern our show. The topics are hard to discuss but I feel this is the time to talk about them. I'll issue this warning again at the beginning of the recording.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 39: It's All in the Presentation

This episode was much more sedate than a few in the past, probably because of the weather and the day more than the topic. We definitely hit the target with the topic though and would love to hear listener comments on anything you think we missed!

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #39: It's All in the Presentation

Sometimes it's not in what you say but how you say it. In this episode the articles are centered around not just the substance of what is being said but also the structure. We'll see how that impacts with reality.

Articles for Front Porch Political Talk #37: Neither Now Nor Later

Another busy news week that brings a lot of conversation topics to the table. In this episode we are looking at the concept of how the past as defined by leaders of the present defines the future. Things may appear on the surface to be all over the place but by the end of the show we'll have a cohesive conversation that makes sense.

Front Porch Political Talk Episode 26: No Place For It

A good recording with this episode, definitely worth the listen!  One of the best feats I think we managed to accomplish during the recording was to talk about the protests in South Carolina as an event without muddying the waters on the "right or wrong" of either side.  I mentioned during the podcast our affiliation with Red State Talk Radio but misspoke on the domain, the correct link for Red State Talk Radio is http://www.redstatetalkradio.com.
